There are so many hot takes coming on the heels of the first weekend of play in season 2 that we almost don’t know where to start…but let’s go with this one: Liam Pitchford is already worth every farthing the Florida Crocs paid to draft him first overall

Aaaaand we’re back! The long wait is finally over. Despite all the changes and events that happened over the league’s first offseason, the time still seemed interminable if you (like us) are addicted to the MLTT adrenaline rush fan experience. Now with all 8 teams somewhere between “significantly revamped” and “completely remade,” we have the first four teams en route to one of the best arenas for fan engagement...

“With the number one pick in the 2024 MLTT draft, the Florida Crocs select….Liam Pitchford.” With those epic words reminiscent of Adam Silver of the NBA, MLTT’s Commissioner Flint Lane kicked off a wildly entertaining and hugely consequential draft, with massive implications on the balance of power among the eight teams for next season.

The Texas Smash, led remotely once again by Coach Jorg Bitzigeio, are your 2023-2024 inaugural MLTT season champions! They completed the feat in dominating fashion, defeating both East Division powerhouses Carolina Gold Rush and Princeton Revolution convincingly…an incredible feat made even more amazing when considering their very presence at these playoffs were somewhat of a miracle in and of itself…

The center of the US table tennis universe will be Chi-Town this coming weekend, where MLTT will crown its first ever champion. Four teams with title aspirations will be there to battle it out: the Bay Area Blasters, Carolina Gold Rush, Princeton Revolution and Texas Smash all fought through the gauntlet of MLTT’s regular season to make the Big Dance, but how they got here is now less important. What matters is how they will perform under the even brighter lights and on the even bigger stage of MLTT’s postseason playoffs.

DOUBLE FIST PUMP TIME!! There was a lot of celebrating on Friday for the Carolina Gold Rush faithful when the news exploded onto the internets that teammates Enzo Angles and Hong Lin had won both the MLTT Men’s and Women’s MVP Awards for this inaugural season.

Not to be eclipsed by the Beasts of the East, the Best of the West took center stage this past weekend and put on quite a show, fighting tooth and nail for the two playoff spots on the campus of Wichita State with some shocking results. In this game of midwestern musical chairs, the Portland Paddlers and Seattle Spinners found themselves chairless once the music stopped, as the Bay Area Blasters punched their ticket on Saturday, followed by the Texas Smash corralling the final spot on Sunday.

Although we find it hard to believe the West Division finale can match the level of glorious insanity that we experienced in Lawrenceville, NJ a couple weekends ago, the conditions for just such a thing are certainly in place. A mere 5 points separate the division-leading Bay Area Blasters from the hard charging Portland Paddlers, who in turn must keep a close eye on the rearview mirror for a playoff-or-bust Texas Smash, just 11 points away

The moment when the Princeton Revolution completed their remarkable comeback from last place to Final Four playoff-bound title contender. Princeton and Carolina will represent the East Division at MLTT’s 2024 Championship Weekend on April 27-28th in Chicago, IL

The regular season finale for the East Division will take place in Alumni Gymnasium on the campus of Rider College in Lawrenceville, NJ….a home game for the Princeton Revolution. Ticket sales have been record-setting, so it promises to be an electric environment for the final clash between Princeton and Florida.

The formidable 1-2 punch of Kou Lei and Jiwei Xia led the way for Portland’s resurgence this past weekend in Seattle.

The Seattle Spinners host MLTT’s West Division teams in the season’s penultimate tour stop, and the stakes could not be higher with all four teams bunched up and within 11 points of the top playoff spot. Here’s our preview article bundled up with a little musical history lesson for all you young ‘uns who were still In Utero when Seattle was spinning at the center of the music universe.

The four teams in MLTT’s East Division descend upon Winter Haven, FL this weekend as the race for the playoffs (or more specifically, for the one remaining playoff spot) kicks into overdrive.

With all the recent hoopla (pun intended) surrounding the NBA’s announcement of its All-Star selections, we here at Majorponghead decided that while MLTT doesn’t officially award an All-Star team, why should that stop us from selecting our own 2023-2024 MLTT All-Star Team?

The recently concluded Portland event will now forever be known (surpassing both Pleasanton, CA and Broward Country, FL) as the high point of spectator engagement and home town excitement. Portland Paddler fans absolutely jammed the stands for their matches and created a standing room only, electric, pro-Portland environment.

Everyone associated with MLTT knows Mimi Bosika, and to know Mimi is to love Mimi. She is the One Woman Swiss Army Knife of the league and especially for the athletes…facilitating their travel and hotel arrangements, visa applications, payments, getting them on the right shuttle, answering all their questions about logistics and life in general, even making sure the Players Lounge is fully-stocked and a comfortable oasis away from the pressure of the table. Earlier in the season, we once referred to her as “MLTT Mother” and while she appreciated the sentiment, her immediate response was “Can we make it kind of a very caring older sister instead?” Consider it done! Whatever her moniker, everyone agrees that Mimi is the emotional heart and soul of MLTT team. We here at Majorponghead were honored when she agreed to answer a few questions for our first every interview article. So without any further ado, let’s all get to know Big Sis Mimi a bit better.
